Cafe Longet opens in Venice
Steve and Jessica Longet are bringing a bit of France to Venice with their new eponymous venture, Cafe Longet (239 Miami Avenue West, 941-244-2643, cafelonget.com).
Proprietor/Chef de Cuisine Steve Longet, with an impressive culinary background from Annecy, France near the Swiss border, is offering classic French dishes with a contemporary twist. The new cafe has an appealing cosmopolitan setting with warm wood floors, local art gracing the walls and a stylish bar providing a nice variety of beer and French wines. Seating for 65 is at black tables with attractive woven place mats and outside dining beneath thatched umbrellas.
The new bistro offers a nice variety of luncheon selections such as three special burgers (traditional, shrimp and avocado and chicken with spinach and goat cheese). There also are quiches and buckwheat crepes with a pleasing array of fillings like shrimp, ginger and pineapple; chicken, cranberries and eggplant. Salads might include goat cheese and walnuts; figs and prosciutto; or smoked salmon and leeks.
